Manual therapy is the practice of passively moving the joints of the body.  It involves restoring mobility and normal end-feels to joints.  Mobilization is a gentle, rhythmic, repetitive passive movement.  It can be applied with an oscillatory motion or with a sustained stretch.  Manipulation is another technique use by our qualified physiotherapists.  A manipulation is a high velocity, low amplitude thrust applied to a joint.  It is intended to resotre optimal motion, function and/or reduce pain in a stiff joint and associated tissue.  Our physiotherapists use a biomechanically-based approach to treatment.

On your initial visit to Uxbridge Physiotherapy, your physiotherapist will complete a full neuromuscular assessment to determine the area of dysfunction.  This includes a thorough subjective history, observation, and a detailed biomechanical examination.  Treatment may consist of manual therapy, as well as education and exercises specific to your dysfunction.  Other modalities such as heat, ice, ultrasound, or acupuncture may be used as well.
